Education and Qualifications
John serves the Health Science Center as the Director of Environmental Health & Safety and Fire Marshal. John has a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in safety management from Texas A&M University Commerce. John brings more than 15 years of professional experience in the environmental health and safety field to the HSC. He began his career at the Texas A&M University Physical Plant as an Electronic Technician Apprentice where he gained knowledge in maintenance, testing, and installation of fire safety systems. He later moved to the TAMU Environmental Health and Safety department where he elevated from Environmental Safety Technician to Assistant Manager. At TAMU EHS John expanded his knowledge and experience in environmental health and safety while specializing in fire and life safety.
Specialty Training/Board Certifications
John is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, Certified Fire Inspector
and a Registered Accessibility Specialist. He also holds a State of
Texas Flame Effects Operator’s and Pyrotechnics Special Effects
Operator’s license. He has been OSHA certified in construction safety
and has been trained in Hazardous Materials Emergency Response through
the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). John is a member of the
American Society of Safety Engineers, National Fire Protection
Association, International Code Council, and a charter member of the
Center for Campus Fire Safety.
