Roles and Responsibilities
Chair of the IACUC
The chair of the IACUC presides at all meetings of the IACUC and may assign such additional duties to other members of the committee as deemed necessary for the conduct of the work of the IACUC.
Attending Veterinarian
Federal regulations from the PHS Policy IV.A. and USDA 9 CFR, 2.31 require the appointment of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine to serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee with the authority and responsibility for activities involving animals at the institution.
Animal Welfare Assurance Program
The Animal Welfare Assurance Program provides staff support to the IACUC. In addition, this office helps ensure animal welfare and compliance by coordinating the animal facility inspections and semi-annual program reviews as required by federal regulations.
Department Heads and Deans Every animal use protocol includes a signature of the PI’s supervisor as a part of the process
Principal Investigators (PIs)
The PI is the one individual researcher who is designated by the institution to direct a project or program and who is responsible to the institution for the scientific and technical direction of that project or program.
