Supports investigators performing clinical research who will be or are making strong contributions to clinical cancer research. Candidates for this award may be at various stages of their career: newly independent investigators, rising stars, and established investigators.
Applications must be submitted by the president, provost, or appropriate dean of a Texas-based institution of higher education on behalf of a specific candidate.
Awards of $1 million, $2.5 million, or $5 million total costs for newly independent investigators, rising stars, or established investigators, respectively, will be awarded over 5 years.
Individual Investigator Research Awards
RFA Release: February 15, 2011
Application Due Date: May 31, 2011
Award Notification: October 2011
This RFA solicits applications for innovative research projects addressing critically important questions that will significantly advance knowledge of the causes, prevention, and/or treatment of cancer. CPRIT encourages applications that seek to apply or develop state-of-the-art technologies, tools, and/or resources for cancer research, including those with potential commercialization opportunities. CPRIT will look with special favor on new approaches to be taken or new areas of investigation to be explored by established investigators and on supporting the research programs of the most promising investigators at the beginning of their research careers. Applicants need not be trained specifically in cancer research. Indeed, CPRIT strongly encourages investigators from other fields, including the mathematical, physical, chemical, and engineering sciences, to bring their expertise to bear on the exceptionally challenging problems posed by cancer.
Applicants may request a maximum of $500,000 in total per year for up to three years.
High-Impact/High-Risk Research Awards
RFA Release: February 15, 2011
Application Due Date: May 31, 2011
Award Notification: October 2011
This RFA solicits applications for relatively short-term, high-impact/high-risk projects that are especially innovative in nature, exploring new concepts or new avenues of cancer research. CPRIT encourages applications that seek to apply or develop state-of-the-art technologies, tools, and/or resources for cancer research, including those with potential commercialization opportunities. CPRIT expects outcomes of supported activities to directly and indirectly benefit subsequent cancer research efforts, cancer public health policy, or the continuum of cancer care—from prevention to treatment and cure. To fulfill this vision, applications may address any research topic or issue related to cancer biology, causation, prevention, detection or screening, treatment, or cure.
Applicants may request a total of $200,000 for up to 2 years.
LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF PROPOSALS: Texas A&M and the Texas A&M Health Science Center are limited to submitting five proposals each. If you are a Texas A&M investigator, click here for information on submitting limited submission proposals. If you are a HSC investigator, contact the Office of Research.
