About TAMHSC

Texas A&M Health Science Center is transforming health through innovative teaching and research in dentistry, medicine, nursing, biomedical sciences, pharmacy and public health.

The Texas A&M System Board of Regents formally approved establishment of the A&M System’s health-related entities as Health Science Center academic units in September 1997, and it officially began operation on Sept. 1, 1999.

TAMHSC is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral and professional degrees.

Points of Pride

  • Our School of Rural Public Health is consistently ranked in the top 25 schools of public health in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
  • The Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry leads the nation with the most diverse student body of any dental school.
  • The College of Nursing ranked first in the Texas jurisdiction, first against comparable programs and first among nursing graduates nationwide based on percentage of graduates passing the NCLEX-RN in 2012.
  • The Rangel College of Pharmacy is the only professional school located in south Texas; it is ranked 48 among the best schools of pharmacy, according to U.S. News & World Report.
  • The Rural and Community Health Institute serves 118 counties with services to hospitals and physicians, seeking to improve the quality of health care delivery in Texas.
  • The Coastal Bend Health Education Center's medication assistance program has helped more than 1,000 people get access to free medication, saving them more than $2.8 million in prescription costs. 
  • The College of Medicine is efficient and effective in addressing the state’s physician workforce shortage, and was ranked as second most affordable medical school in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in 2012.
